Things Are Happening

Rainwater dripping off porch lights.

It’s a rainy, gray Friday. Our yard finally started to dry out from the nearly 8 inches of rain we’ve had since the beginning of the year, and now we’re getting more. Oh well, we can’t do anything about it, and I guess it’s better than drought. We have enough indoor things to keep us busy on the cold, wet days like, giving our laundry room a face lift! We pulled everything out of the little room, including the shelf on the wall, cleaned it all up, and then taped and painted the whole thing. We put the shelf back up lower than it was to make it easier to reach.

It only took a few hours to do but it turned out very nice. And there is room above the shelf for another shelf if we need it. The trick is, to not accumulate enough stuff to need another shelf.

The Big News!

We finally have our cement pad in for our carport/woodshop! We’ve been waiting for the yard to dry out enough to get it done, and now it is. We’re very happy about this, and now we’re waiting for the construction company to call us to schedule putting up the building. Alot of waiting in all this.

So that’s it, the slab is down. It has to cure for a few days before building on it but by the time we get the build scheduled, the cement will be more than ready. The whole thing is 50’x24′. The front twenty feet will be the carport, and the thirty foot section will be an enclosed building, half of which will be our woodshop and the other half will be for storage and clean jobs like refinishing projects and whatever else we do that requires a clean room, indoors. We plan to have it wired for electricity as soon as possible after it’s up.

Since it has been getting dryer out in the yard, we’ve been doing other projects as well. We put up this steel pipe frame for growing gourds around and yesterday, Barb put up some fence for the gourd vines to attach to.

The gourds will be planted along the fence and will have a nice place to climb. I’m sure barb has lots of projects planned for the gourds when they’ve grown! We also had a fire yesterday in our fire ring. The first one since we moved it to make room for the cement pad.

So, that’s all we have for now. We are waiting for the call to schedule our build and once the building is up, we’ll be very busy getting everything into it from everywhere that it’s all stored now. A lot of work ahead!
