On Becoming Texan…

Speaking of becoming Texan, check this out! What could be more Texan than this? I’m kidding, I hope you know that. But you can actually buy this can on Amazon. It’s a gag gift. There’s not really anything in the can. I thought it was pretty funny though. We need to have a sense of humor about ourselves, don’t you think?

Something very Texan is happening right now in our area. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, takes place every February and it’s just getting started. One of the things that’s done to promote it is the trail rides. Several groups of trail riders take to the roads, winding their way to NRG stadium before the weeklong show begins. They stop and camp in various places along the way and last night one of the groups stopped in our very own Needville.

Close to two thousand riders take part each year, and it’s quite a sight to see. One of the groups has a thousand riders alone. It doesn’t get more Texan than this. It doesn’t look like we’ll make it to the rodeo this year, but it’s on our list of things to do.

Last night we decided we needed some good old Tex-Mex food, so we went to Bob’s Taco Station, in Rosenberg. We like restaurants like this. Cement floor, signs and artifacts all over the walls, owned and operated by a Mexican family, and authentic, scratch made Tex-Mex food. There is a sign that says: “We make our food from scratch but if you’re in a hurry, there is McDonalds and Taco Bell!” I like the attitude.

And the food is great, by the way. We ate as much as we could and brought enough home to have another meal. We will definitely be going back.

Weather Headlines

The sunset last night was beautiful, but the day was cold. The high for the day was just 46 degrees F. Today is only supposed to be a little warmer. So, the heater was on in the greenhouse and will be again tonight. However, the warm-up is coming. The rest of the week is forecast to be much warmer, with high temps in the 70’s and lows in the 50’s and 60’s. We will most definitely be outside doing our thing. Hopefully we will hear from the construction company about putting up our building. It’s agonizing to wait for our woodshop to be up and running.

Well, that’s all we have from Texas today. Even if you don’t live in Texas, throw on some boots, top off with a cowboy hat and go see a rodeo! It’s good to be Texan!
