Busy, Busy, Busy

As the title says, We have been very busy. We finally got our building built, which we’ve decided to call “The Barn”, because we already have one we call, the shed. Here’s a couple photos of the barn.

We think it turned out really nice, and after next week we’ll have electricity installed as well as in our back porch. If it doesn’t rain, the electricians will be here next Monday. After that we can move all our woodworking gear in and start finally having projects to do. It’s been a long wait.

The last hailstorm we had damaged the roof of our house, so we filed a claim right away. The assessment happened quickly and tomorrow we’ll be getting a new roof, again, if it doesn’t rain, which is in the forecast. We’ve also got the usual round of doctor appointments for people our age. Got to keep up our health.

In the photos above, you can see the blue water barrels we got for free. It’s always nice to get free stuff. Anyway we found connectors to join then together and put them under the downspout. When the rain does come, we’ll be ready for it.

The day the barn was finished, the freeloading Sparrows moved in, as if we had it built for them.

It’s snake season in Texas! If you want to be a Texan, it’s something you have to live with. While Barb was preparing a bed for the gourd plants, she found a little Rough Earth snake. They’re harmless and actually beneficial for the garden. At least it wasn’t one of his kin. Rattlesnakes, Cotton mouth, Water Moccasin, and Copperheads, all call Texas home.

This little guy was about 6 inches long.

Come to think of it, there are lots of critters that are harmful in Texas. Alligators, Black Widow spiders, Brown Recluse spiders, Tarantulas, Fire Ants, and Scorpions. I’m sure there are more, I just haven’t discovered them yet. Texas, however, is a big state. Not all of these harbingers of death populate the entire state so we don’t have to put up with all of them. But still, it’s good to be on your guard.

So that’s it for this time. Another two weeks and we’ll have much more to talk about.
