The Greenhouse

Winter is greenhouse weather in Texas. We still have some plants outside, cold hardy things like Split Leaf Philodendron, Aloe, Pansies, and other plants but most of our green goodies are in the greenhouse now. Yesterday we put a top on our workbench, plus a shelf for the fan and small pots.

I think it turned out pretty nice. And it sure makes potting and other greenhouse chores a lot easier. While the greenhouse is only 6’x8′ we’re utilizing the space well and the small size makes it easy to heat. Behind the fan is a window we can open to get a nice cross breeze on hot days. We made the window by leaving out the plastic pane and building a wood frame for it. Then we installed hinges on the bottom.

The greenhouse came with a side roof vent, but we have found they never work very well to get a good air flow going. With the back window open, the air can flow right through. Here are some photos of what we’re growing in the greenhouse now.

We have more than what I photographed in the greenhouse but I think you get the idea. And we still have shelf space for more!
