I believe I’ve said before that you can write haiku about anything. The photo above is from some mushrooms I found growing in a pot at our local plant nursery. So, haiku about mushrooms? Sure, why not?
stubby mushrooms
growing wild in the dirt
suddenly hungry
****
damp earth
and mushrooms
barely seen
****
fungi
dark and wet
suddenly a light
****
There they are, three haiku about mushrooms that I made up as I sat here at the computer. Composing haiku takes a little thought, when there are no other distractions. Sometimes you have to put yourself in a scene in order to experience what you want to write about. The three haiku above are all written about personal experiences I have had in the past and I had to think about seeing those little fungi, remembering how it felt and what I saw.
When I sat down to write at the computer today, I wasn’t sure what I was going to say. So I looked for a photo to spark some ideas and found this one. It helped me remember when I saw the little things and what I was feeling. Inspiration can come from just about anywhere and sometimes it needs a little help from a photo, or something someone says. Sometimes all you need is a little push to get you going. Happy writing!

People can be so fussy about subjects. I read something recently on his subject and they said you wouldn’t be able to write about cooking eggs because it wasn’t serious enough. Fortunately nobody had told the editor that had accepted my tanka prose about cooking eggs the month before. If you can do it or see it, surely you can write about it?
