Feeling

When you write a haiku, word it so what you felt when you experienced it comes through clearly, even if you don’t describe the feelings. The reader needs to know how it felt, what emotions were stirred.

Looking into the clear night sky is awe inspiring and can be felt even when someone else is describing it. Use language that brings those feelings out in the reader. Imagine reading the haiku yourself and ask, what words or lack of words would bring this feeling out in me? Sometimes, not saying something is as powerful or more powerful than saying it. Try different words, or different ways of using words for the greatest effect. Take your time, there’s no hurry!
