And The Beat Goes On

Well, here we are. Eight days into 2021 and it looks to be just as stupid as 2020 was. We have trump, (not capitalized on purpose) cheerleader of idiots, inciting an insurrection and attack on the U.S. capitol. We have a vaccine for the plague, and an incompetent attempt by our government to get it out quickly to the people. We have racism, bigotry, misogyny, toxic masculinity, and all those other great words, running rampant in the streets. Yay for us, we’re doing so well.

I am by no means a political expert, and will happily leave that area to those who are. What I will say however, is that I’m not surprised by any of it. People suck, alright? Bottom line, people suck. Especially, people in charge. When I worked for a living, (now I just leach entitlements off the government) it always amazed me how the various employers I had always seemed to pick people for supervisory roles who were the least competent they could find. Why was this, I pondered? It came to me, one dark and stormy night, that most people who seek out positions of power and authority, not all, but most, are usually those least able to do the job. A favorite author, Douglas Adams said this:

“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”

He was absolutely correct. All you have to do is watch. You’ll see it everywhere, especially in government. The power seekers, the profiteers, are those who have little or nothing of substance in their lives, and therefore want/need/ desire attention. The crave it. trump, as an example is a master at taking any situation, no matter how far removed from him, and making it all about himself. Imagine a conversation with him, where you tell him your mother just died. He would immediately try to have you believe that in inconvenienced him for her to do so, it was rude of her, and it shouldn’t have happened, because by God, he had a country to to run, and how dare she take time out to just die. She’s a traitor, and it’s probably fake news anyway, you’re are liar.

So this is how our year begins. Now we have trump’s cabinet members lining up to resign, saying they cannot put up with anymore. The insults, the hatred, the lying, the bigotry, racism, and all the rest were just fine, but this, this is an attack on an American institution, our capitol, for God sake, completely ignoring that racism, bigotry, misogyny and the rest, are also American institutions, not wholly owned by us of course, but fully embraced. So we will be offended at certain institutions being attacked, but not others. Fuck your mother dying, but the capitol, a building built on the backs of human slaves, (gasp) how dare they.

Now what? We haven’t completely buried ourselves in filth yet, but by God, there’s still time. I have absolutely no faith whatsoever that the politicians who supported and egged on trump over these past few years will see any retribution for their crimes. A slap on the wrist maybe, called censure, which is essentially that, a slap on the wrist, but nothing more. I’d love to proved wrong about this, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. So we’ll just keep plugging along, blaming everyone else for our problems, wondering why these terrible things happen to us, we’re American’s after all, the greatest country in the world, right? Right? Anybody out there? Anybody feeling sorry for us? Huh, I thought for sure…

  1. I actually heard a rant one time that went on and on and was pretty good and ended with, “People are people and they always will be.”
