I long for endless days of summer with green wheat
in fields swaying to the music of the wind that
blows from the west to cool the heat of the day.
I long for fish swimming just under the surface
of the lake flashing green and gold as they
protect the beds and yellow jelly eggs.
I long for days of my youth when there was not
a care except for the end of summer when I
would go back to school and dream of the next one.
I long for eagles in flight and great blue herons
fishing in shallows with frogs chorusing and
a pelican flotilla with accompanying cormorants.
I long for these things and more. Some are gone
some are going and my mind cannot encompass the
want of it without taking my breath away.
