Ah well, here I am on Christmas night at the keyboard of my computer wondering what to say. We have spent the last two days readying for and participating in family festivities. This being the first Christmas without my father, my mother seemed a bit melancholy last night, which is completely understandable. All in all, we did alright and having eaten ourselves stupid, opened presents that we gave to one another. We were a small group including me and my wife, one of our kids, (the other two engaged elsewhere) my brother and his wife and my mom. While we were at my mom’s we got about six inches of snow. It was a fun time together and then today, we went to my mother-in-laws house to spend time with my wife’s family.
I have one sibling and Ann (my wife) has four. The dynamics are definitely different between the two families. Every family has it’s issues and Ann’s is no exception but mostly they all get along fine. We had a good time there today. Her two sisters live a considerable distance away but always make it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Ann has ten nieces and nephews, their husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends and quite a few great nieces and nephews. It’s a houseful for sure.
This morning Sophie and I went out into the fresh snow for a walk. She LOVES new snow! Leaping and jumping and running around, dipping her head under the snow, and rolling in it, she has a great time. She’s 80 pounds and she’ll be two years old on the 29th but acts like a puppy most of the time. Our farmer Steve, brought the tractor down and plowed the driveway out for us (Steve owns all the farm land around our house so he’s “our farmer”) and now I’ve got to gas up the snow blower and finish the job. But that’s going to wait. Along with laundry and cleaning, it’s all going to wait. When I finish this post I’m going to do something mindless like watch TV, which I almost never do. It just seems like a good time for mindlessness.
So to all of you who celebrate holidays at this time of year, Happy Holidays! And every once in a while I love to rub salt in a wound so, Happy Holidays to you Sarah Palin! Good night!
