A thin sheet of ice skims the lake,
giving off a dull shine from the morning sun.
Our feet leave tracks in the new fallen snow
as we walk along the road.
Suddenly, Sophie leaps in the air, twisting
as she lands and runs circles around me.
Head and tail held high, tongue flopping
in a dog made breeze.
Stopping and turning she charges me.
Leaps and head butts my shoulder;
a gesture that says, “I love You.”
Then off to stick her nose in the snow.
Seeing her pure unbridled joy
makes me want to leap and dance.
It’s amazing to watch her.
Sophie, loves the snow.
